Over the years, continuous progress has been made in the field of Plain Bearings,
including practical use of composite material and solid lubricants. These are called
Oiless bushes as there is no external lubrication required. The oilless Bearings have
dry lubricant compressed into base metal. At the time of frictional motion, particles
of solid lubricants form minute lubricant membrane to the surface of the moving part.
Thus despite the oilless condition, the Bearing continues to provide smooth motion,
reducing friction and abrasionof the bearing with excellent self lubrication.
Typically the base material used is either Steel based, or Copper based or Bronze based. Different alloy compositions are possible depending upon the application requirement.
